Peter Beck joined Colonial group in 1981. He was appointed to current role in 1997. In 1999 he was elected as Appointed Actuary. He has previously held senior positions in marketing, customer services, information technology and finance in Australia (and South Africa until 1987).

Mr Beck became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries (United Kingdom) in 1983 and became a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia in 1992.
