Ian Harper is Professorial Fellow in the Melbourne Business School at the University of Melbourne. From 1993 to 1997, he held the Ian Potter Chair of International Finance in the School. Ian is also Senior Associate with the Allen Consulting Group.

His consulting practice focuses on strategic issues facing financial institutions. His clients include major banks and non-bank financial institutions, corporates and departments of the Federal and Victorian governments.

Most recently, his expertise on financial matters was recognised by his appointment in May 1996 to the Financial System (Wallis) Inquiry established by the Federal Government to inquire into the appropriate reform of the regulatory structure for financial institutions and markets in Australia.

Prior to joining Melbourne Business School, Ian was Professor of Monetary and Financial Economics in the Faculty of Economics and Commerce at the University of Melbourne. He has also held positions at the Australian National University in Canberra, Princeton University in the United States and the Reserve Bank of Australia in Sydney.
