Sean Hughes represents the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) at this Symposium. Sean is the director of the DISC program within ASIC's Victorian office which regulates market conduct by deposit-taking institutions, insurance companies and the superannuation industry, from a consumer protection perspective.

Sean is a lawyer who has practised in New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and England. Prior to joining ASIC in 1999, he was a partner in a law firm in Melbourne specialising in insurance law. He holds a Master of Law from Cambridge University and is the author of numerous articles in professional, academic and industry journals on insurance issues. He currently resides in Melbourne, but was born and educated in New Zealand.
