Ken Waller was
appointed as senior economic adviser to the international area of the
Colonial group in February 1998. He has since been appointed as senior
economic adviser to the Group. His appointment to Colonial followed a
three and half year assignment as the Australian Senior Treasury Representative,
Beijing, and a career of nearly thirty years with the Australian Treasury.
In his work in China, he advised the Australian government on developments
in the Chinese economy, including monetary and fiscal policies, pension
and social security issues and on China's economic relationships within
the region and globally.
He has worked on Australia's international financial and resources policies,
Australia's relations with the IMF, OECD, World Bank and the EBRD and
he served as Executive Director on the Board of the Asian Development
Bank, Manila, from 1988-92. He was Assistant Secretary, Banking and Finance
and a senior adviser on the reform of the Australian financial system,
the entry of new foreign banks and changes to the financial system regulatory
framework (1982-88).
In the period 1979-82, he worked as Minister (Treasury) at the Australian
High Commission, London.In his role with Colonial, Mr. Waller advises
the Group on economic and political developments in Asia, the UK and New
Zealand; he is a member of the Investment Committee of CMG-Mahon, a direct
investment company located in Beijing.
