Deepening Prudential Regulatory Capacity in Non-Life Insurance (16 Sep - 21 Sep 2007)
The need to improve financial services regulation is generally accepted and it has been suggested by recent FSAP reviews that insurance supervision in both developing and developed countries is a weak link in financial services regulation and is a source of increasing financial vulnerability. It is estimated there are several thousand insurance regulators in the Asia Pacific and South Asia region, and that the majority of these regulators need to participate in capacity building initiatives to enhance capabilities and experience.
The Australian APEC Study Centre at Monash University in
collaboration with academia and experts in the financial industry has
developed a training program designed to assist regulators and industry in the Asia
Pacific region to develop an understanding of international best practises as prescribed by International Association of Insurance Supervisors (IAIS) and the practical issues involved in implementing
them.
The training program, Deepening Prudential Regulatory Capacity in Non-life Insurance, is to be held on Sunday, 16 September - Friday 21 September 2007.
This program is generously sponsored by the APEC Secretariat's Support Fund, and supported by IAIS.
This course is an extension of the very successful three
year training program, the Managing Regulatory Change in
Life Insurance and Pensions Training Program, run by the
Centre under the auspices of the APEC Finance Ministers
with the support of the ADB, AusAID, the Department of Finance of the University
of Melbourne and Australian public and private sector organisations.
To date this program has trained more than 200 regulators
in the Asia Pacific.
